► Differential dynamic potentiometry (DDP) provides characteristic signals for anions. ► DDP signals are highly reproducible and can be used as anion-fingerprints. ► Principal component analysis permits DDP signals to be exploited to classify anions. ► The principal component of signals can be used as an anion lipophilicity descriptor. ► Differential dynamic potentiometry (DDP) may be useful for quantifying binary anion mixtures.
