Polyoligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-hydrogenated polybutadiene polyurethane coatings for corrosion inhibition of AA2024

► Polyurethane-polyoligomeric silsesquioxane (PU-POSS) formulations were made. ► Thin transparent coatings exhibited excellent barrier properties. ► Coatings with corrosion inhibitors were evaluated, including salt fog testing. ► Best coating had benzotriazole in hydrotalcite and sodium-2-mercaptobenzothiazole. ► Coatings effectively prevented corrosion of aluminum alloy 2024.
