Biocompatibility assessment of silk nanoparticles: hemocompatibility and internalization by human blood cells

We report on the blood compatibility of silk nanoparticles and directly compare their performance to that of well-characterized silica nanoparticles using human whole blood under flow conditions that mimic in vivo shear forces. We complemented these studies with single-cell live cell imaging to assess the cellular uptake of nanoparticles by blood cells.137
