► Virtual and parental accompaniment analogous in terms of their negative connotation. ► The technology has positive functions as an objective feedback device. ► The overriding conceptions of the technology were negative. ► Teens had mixed and contradictory views of their parents as role models. ► Both types of 'accompaniment' require parental guidance.
