Influence of torrefaction on the devolatilization and oxidation kinetics of wood

► Thermogravimetric analysis in nitrogen and air is made of wood and torrefied wood. ► Measured curves are well described by a five step reaction mechanism. ► Thermal and oxidative degradation kinetics is not modified by torrefaction. ► The amounts of volatile species evolved depend on the torrefaction degree. ► The char reactivity is slightly modified by torrefaction.
