A test strip platform based on DNA-functionalized gold nanoparticles for on-site detection of mercury (II) ions

► A test strip for Hg2+ was developed using DNA-functionalized gold nanoparticles. ► The mechanism and the application for detecting Hg2+ in water were demonstrated. ► The detection limit (LOD) for Hg2+ using the test strip was about 3 nM.
