Analysis of linear and cyclic methylsiloxanes in water by headspace-solid phase microextraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

► We propose a new method for the analysis of linear and cyclic siloxanes in water. ► The method is based on HS-SPME combined with GC-MS. ► The method provided good precision (RSD < 17%) and low LODs (0.01-34 ng L−1). ► The absence of matrix effect using the HS-SPME has been demonstrated. ► Siloxane concentrations ranging from 0.09 to 58.5 ng L−1 were found in river waters.
