Improve the hydrogen production from the conversion of renewable resources such as biomass is a real challenge in the context of the production of clean and efficient energy. By biomass steam gasification, H2 is produced with significant amounts of CO2, CH4 and heavy, toxic and complex aromatic molecules called tars. This work focuses on the production of hydrogen by tar steam reforming with in-situ CO2 capture. A catalytic bi-functional material Fe/CaO-Ca12Al14O33 where the iron phases favour the H2 production and the CaO-Ca12Al14O33 phase simultaneously captures CO2 during several cycles of carbonation-decarbonation was developed. This bi-functional material was active for both tar steam reforming and Water Gas Shift reactions enhanced by in-situ CO2 capture.
