The effects of cell assembly compression on the performance of carbon electrochemical double-layer capacitor electrodes

► Increasing force on an EDLC cell only provides a limited increase in the capacitance. ► The force shifts the pore distribution of a porous electrode toward overall smaller pores. ► The surface area which is attributable to small-sized pores is difficult to be accessible. ► Different activated carbons exhibit different behaviors when force was applied to the electrodes.
