Photoinduced electron transfer quenching and sugar effects on the electrostatic interaction between an anionic Ru(II) complex and cationic bipyridinium derivatives functionalized with boronic acids

► Synthesis of two benzyl viologen quenchers and Ru(II) metal-ligand-complex. ► A large decrease of the luminescence of metal complex as the concentration of quencher increase. ► Static and dynamic quenching constants are obtained in presence of water and phosphate buffer. ► The lifetime of metal complex is decreased in the presence of sugar molecule.
