Intercalation studies of zinc hydroxide chloride: Ammonia and amino acids

► Zinc hydroxide chloride (ZHC) was tested as intercalation matrix for the first time. ► ZHC has higher chemical and thermal stability than zinc hydroxide nitrate and LDH. ► NH3 molecules can be intercalated into ZHC. ► The amino group of amino acids limits the intercalation by ion-exchange.
