Nanoporous membranes with cellulose nanocrystals as functional entity in chitosan: Removal of dyes from water

- Chitosan membranes with cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) as functional entity.
- Ultrafiltration membranes (≈250 μm) with pores in the range of 13-17 nm.
- Homogeneous CNC dispersion, stabilized with chitosan in aqueous medium.
- Up to 99% removal efficiency for positively charged dyes and low water flux.
- Electrostatic interactions of surface functional group of CNCs with dyes expected.
