Evolution of heliospheric magnetized configurations via topological invariants

► New magnetic field classification by merging knot theory with MHD is proposed. ► Invariants for the configuration and evolution of magnetic fields are specified. ► Prime knots are suggested as building blocks of magnetic configurations. ► Solar wind field and small-scale current sheets structures are conceived as knots.
