Focal adhesion kinase regulates intestinal epithelial barrier function via redistribution of tight junction

► A role of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) in epithelial barrier function is explored. ► FAK activity is required in both maintenance and repair of epithelial barrier. ► FAK moves away from intercellular border to apical surface upon barrier injury. ► FAK co-localizes with tight junction to regulate its assembly/disassembly.
