Aging effect of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil under different attenuation conditions

► We checked the aging process of petroleum hydrocarbons under different conditions. ► Aging of petroleum can be affected by soil particle size and soil properties. ► A significant negative correlation was found between bacteria count and TPH content. ► Biological toxicity of the soil increased at the middle of aging process of 30-60 d.
