The wine discrimination potential of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technique is reported. For this purpose, a set of 30 wines from three Romanian regions (Transylvania, Banat, Moldova) comprising two varieties, Sauvignon Blanc and Feteasca Regala from 2011-2015 vintages, was investigated. Additionally four French wine samples from Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay varieties, produced in 2015 were included in the study. The vine variety differentiation (Feteasca Regala versus Sauvignon Blanc) was achieved with a percentage of 90.3% while for the geographical origin differentiation among investigated Romanian areas a percentage of 83.3% was obtained. Additionally, the separation of French samples from Romanian ones was realized in a percentage of 100% in both, initial and cross-validation procedure. For vintage discrimination, the method proved to be less sensitive allowing only the differentiation of 2012 vintage from the other investigated vintages. In this case, the obtained percentages were 90% for initial classification and 83.3% in cross-validation.
