Le scanner multibarrettes : un outil indispensable au bilan d'extension des cancers de l'ovaire

Fifth leading cause of death in women and third leading cause of cancer death, the prognosis of ovarian carcinoma remains poor with peritoneal extension present in more than 70% of patients at the time of initial diagnosis. MRI and CT provide similar results for staging. However, thin slice acquisition with coronal and sagittal multiplanar reformations using multidetector row CT is mandatory for presurgical staging to improve detection of subcentimeter lesions. Careful review of imaging data with the surgeon will prevent unnecessary surgery for patients in whom optimal surgical debulking will not be possible. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is a reasonable alternative for these patients.
