آشنایی با موضوع

علم و فن اندازه گیری(MEASUREMENT)، یکی از ارکان اساسی تمدن کنونی بشر است، به طوری که هر یک از پیشرفتهای علمی، صنعتی و پژوهشی بشر در تمام اعصار به نوعی به قابلیت و توانایی او در امر اندازه گیری مربوط می شود. اندازه گیری یا تعیین اندازه ی یک کمیت، یعنی نمایاندن آن کمیت به وسیله عددی که نشان می دهد چند بار یک واحد معین و معلوم به نام یکا، در کمیت مورد اندازه گیری تکرار شده است. اندازه‌گیری یا سنجش فرایند برآورد اندازهٔ ویژگی‌های یک چیزاست. این عبارت نشانگر شمار نتایج فرایند پیشین نیز هست. مترولوژی، دانش بررسی اندازه‌گیری است. قوانین و نظریات فیزیک بصورت معادلات ریاضی بیان می‌شوند. حال ما از کجا بدانیم که هر معادله خاص، رفتار چیزی را بیان می‌کند؟ باید این قاعده امتحان شود و به مرحله آزمون گذاشته شود. بنابراین، اندازه گیری مهارتی است که میان نظریه علمی و دنیای واقعی رابطه ایجاد می‌کند. این رابطه دو طرفه می‌باشد. هر رویداد اندازه گیری شده‌ای که قبلا پیشگویی نشده باشد، باید نظریه جدید آنرا توجیه کند. در اندازه‌گیری‌ها پاسخ کامل نداریم. هر کسی که نتیجهٔ اندازه‌گیری خود را گزارش می‌کند، همواره بهترین برآورد خود را از مقدار اصلی، همراه با خطای اندازه‌گیری آن، ارائه می‌دهد. عمل اندازه‌گیری، بیشتر با یک ابزار اندازه‌گیری انجام می‌شود که با این کار، ویژگی اندازه‌گیری ‌شده با یکای اندازه ‌گیری سنجیده می‌شود. هر نوع ویژگی را می‌توان اندازه گرفت. کمّیت‌های فیزیکی، مانند مسافت، سرعت، انرژی، دما و زمان ازجملهٔ این ویژگی‌ها هستند. بنیان‌گذار اندازه‌گیریِ نوین، متیو لاسکی است. در اندازه گیریها باید آنها را به یک یکای مشترک تبدیل کرد. به عبارت دیگر باید در یک متریک واحد اندازه گیریها را انجام داده و نتیجه را هم یا در آن متریک و یا با تبدیلات مربوطه در دستگاه دیگری بیان کرد. زیرا در اندازه گیریها و محاسبات فقط کمیاتی را که بعد یکسانی دارند، می‌توان با استفاده از یکاهای تبدیل باهم جمع یا از هم تفریق و یا باهم مقایسه کرد.
