In order to honor and promote human rights, including access to social participation, independence, and if possible self-determination. Leaders of associations defending the rights of the mentally handicapped are confronted with several issues including the crucial question of sterilization. We examine this question and demonstrate how an ethical approach to responsibility can open nuanced and attentive perspectives concerning a very sensitive issue.
