Evaluation and improvement of antioxidant and antibacterial activities of supercritical extracts from clove buds

► Supercritical clove extracts showed activity comparable to synthetic antioxidants. ► Oregano extract (0.6-5%) in clove extract improved its antioxidant activity. ► Oregano extract (50%) in the clove extract improved its antibacterial activity. ► Synergistic activity of clove extract with 50% of oregano extract on MRSA strain. ► Higher efficiency of clove extract could enable use of lower concentrations in food.
