Analogies abusives et autres paralogismes en territoire de handicap

RésuméIl s’agit ici de repérer un certain nombre de paralogismes qui, intervenant dans le domaine du handicap, ont des conséquences déplorables sur son acceptation sociale. Nous mettons ainsi en avant le paralogisme des analyses égocentrées, consistant à se mettre à la place de la personne handicapée, mais en partant de l’expérience du valide. Autre paralogisme récurrent : l’analogie abusive. Celle-ci amène à assimiler besoin d’assistance et état infantile, voire sénilité. En vertu de la projection de l’extériorité sur l’intériorité, à un physique contrefait sera ainsi attribuée une pensée contrefaite. Nous terminons par l’insistance sur le caractère producteur du regard humain : notre manière de regarder la personne handicapée peut, ou l’enfermer dans son handicap ou lui permettre qu’il ne la séquestre pas.

The aim here is to identify a certain number of paralogisms which, when dealing with disability, tend to have deplorable consequences for its social acceptance. We thus highlight the paralogism of the egocentred analysis, which consists in putting oneself in the position of the disabled person, but from the starting point of the able-bodied person's experience. Another recurring paralogism is the fallacious analogy. This leads to the need for assistance being equated with an infantile state, or even senility. Through the projection of exteriority onto interiority, a misshapen body is often considered to go hand-in-hand with misshapen thinking. We finish by stressing the impact of how we look at things: our way of seeing disabled people can either straitjacket them in their handicap, or help them break free of it.
