La mise en images du corps handicapé dans l’art contemporain

RésuméQuels sont les enjeux psychiques de la mise en images du corps handicapé ? La psychanalyse permet de dévoiler les représentations inconscientes, aussi bien collectives qu’individuelles, que suscite le handicap, toujours source d’inquiétante étrangeté. Constatant que le handicap devient un thème récurrent et un sujet d’intérêt pour nombre d’artistes contemporains, l’auteur fait l’hypothèse que ces œuvres, dans la suite du corps christique, ont une fonction de révélateur des différents aspects du corps atteint d’une anomalie et qu’elles produisent un renouveau du regard sur le handicap.

What are the psychic states involved in representing the disabled body? Psychoanalysis makes it possible to reveal the unconscious representations – both collective and individual – provoked by disability, which are always a source of uncanniness. Noticing that disability has become a recurrent theme and subject of interest for many contemporary artists, the author contends that works, such as those in the tradition of Christ's body, have the function of revealing different aspects of the body affected by abnormality, and that they give rise to a renewed vision of disability.
