Camus et l'engagement soignant, de l'impuissance à la révolte

Camus died 50 years ago. He was a philosopher, a journalist, a novelist and also a dramatist. Beyond commemorations, this article aims at showing how Camus's whole work speaks to the health professionals we are. This feeling of powerlessness regarding the absurdity of our 'unreasonable' world which Camus kept evoking in his books is very well-known by the professionals who are confronted with diseases, vulnerability, suffering and death on a daily basis. According to the author, only revolt which refuses, utopia and nihilism enable us to escape this absurdity. As Dr Rieux, the hero of La peste, by recognising the humanity of the others, the health professional activity enables us to keep ours. Thus, as Sisyphus, one can imagine health professionals happy.
