Investigating the anti-mineralocorticoid properties of synthetic progestins used in hormone therapy

► MPA and NET-A have similar binding affinities for hMR but 100-fold lower than Prog. ► Unlike Prog, MPA and NET-A have weak MR antagonistic activity on a reporter gene. ► Unlike MPA, NET-A has similar antagonistic activity as Prog on endogenous genes. ► NET-A, not MPA, dissociates between transrepression and transactivation via the hMR. ► Results suggest NET-A and MPA may result in differential side-effects via the MR.
