Rosuvastatin reduces microglia in the brain of wild type and ApoE knockout mice on a high cholesterol diet; Implications for prevention of stroke and AD

► Rosuvastatin, an inhibitor of the enzyme 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, causes significant decrease in inflammatory microglia in the brain of WT and ApoE−/− mice. ► Rosuvastatin also decreases IL-6 levels in plasma and the brain. ► This has important implications for prevention of neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer's disease.
