Envenimation par crapaud commun en France métropolitaine

Envenomations by Amphibien (Anura) are very rare in France. We report the case of a 20-year-old patient with no medical history, having seized by hand a common Toad, Bufo bufo; she presented very quickly painful erythematous and maculopapular lesions without systemic signs. A call to the poison control center was taken and the healing was obtained in thirteen days with symptomatic treatment. B. bufo has parotoid glands located on his back and particularly in the postocular region containing venom with biogenic amines and steroids (and bufogenins bufotoxins). As found in the literature, cases of severe keratitis in case of eyes screenings have been described, but also cases of fatal cardiotoxicity type “digitalic-like” if extracts of Bufonides are ingested (soup, eggs, referred aphrodisiac). Treatment with digoxin-specific Fab'2 fragments was proposed during these envenomations. We did not find any similar publication of cutaneous cases with humans. There are other Anura (dendrobatids: Phyllobates) in the New World responsible for fatal clinical cases.
