RECQ1 plays a distinct role in cellular response to oxidative DNA damage

► RECQ1 interacts with PARP-1 in vivo and in vitro. ► Hydrogen peroxide induces PARP activity independent chromatin binding of RECQ1. ► RECQ1-depleted cells overactivate PARP specifically in response to H2O2 treatment. ► RECQ1-depleted cells do not show HR deficiency or sensitivity to PARP inhibitors.
