Characterization of cannabinoid-induced relief of neuropathic pain in rat models of type 1 and type 2 diabetes

► Effect of the cannabinoid WIN 55,212-2 (WIN) in rat models of type 1 and 2 diabetes. ► WIN alleviates mechanical allodynia in both models of type 1 and 2 diabetes. ► In type 1 diabetes, WIN effect is mediated by CB1 and CB2 receptors. ► In type 2 diabetes, CB2 receptors might not be involved. ► At the doses used, WIN does not exert any psychoactive effect.
