Modulation of mitochondrial respiratory capacity by carrier-mediated transfer of RNA in vivo

► Delivery of functional DNA/RNA to mitochondria in vivo has not been observed. ► Using a carrier complex, polycistronic RNAs were delivered to various rat tissues. ► This resulted in the improvement of the respiratory capacity of skeletal muscle. ► The effect was most pronounced in the 14-mo group but less in the 24 mo group.
