First year experience of rotavirus immunisation programme in Finland

► The total incidence of secondary care rotavirus gastroenteritis (RVGE) was estimated. ► Unspecific cases prevented by the vaccine programme were assumed to be RVGE. ► The total incidence of secondary care RVGE cases among <1 yoa was 10.5/1000 pyrs. ► The incidence of laboratory confirmed RVGE cases among <1 yoa was 4.9/1000 pyrs. ► At the directly targeted age, the effectiveness against confirmed RVGE was 97%.
