Recombinant Shiga toxin B subunit elicits protection against Shiga toxin via mixed Th type immune response in mice

► In this study crosslinked rStxB induced protective immune response. ► Initially it was humoral immune response which switches to cell mediated after 3rd dose as observed by IgG isotyping. ► Cytokine production suggests that rStxB could be effective for induction of mixed Th type of immune response. ► IFN-γ and IL-4 were detected in the supernatants of the cultures of rStxB stimulated splenocytes. ► Histopathology of kidney of vaccinated and unimmunized animals was also conducted.
