Cost of production of live attenuated dengue vaccines: A case study of the Instituto Butantan, Sao Paulo, Brazil

► Dengue is a serious disease and progress is being achieved in vaccine development. ► A vaccine's price affects its uptake and is influenced by the cost of production. ► We estimate production cost of a tetravalent live attenuated dengue vaccine. ► At 60 million doses produced annually, cost would be ∼$0.20 in 10-dose vials and ∼$0.70 in single-dose vials. ► The vaccine can be made available at a price that most ministries of health could afford.
