Reducing animal experimentation in foot-and-mouth disease vaccine potency tests

► We design a quality assay for vaccine potency tests. ► We compare existing foot-and-mouth disease vaccine potency tests with alternatives. ► The current European Pharmacopoeia test does not take advantage of domain knowledge. ► A new test is designed combining the advantages of current tests with fewer animals. ► This test could be used as the quality standard for future serological tests.
