Enhancing the utility of a prM/E-expressing chimeric vaccine for Japanese encephalitis by addition of the JEV NS1 gene

► Replacement of LAV NS1 gene for an NS1 gene that matches the target agent of a flavivirus chimera improves potency and efficacy. ► Effect appears to be mediated by positive effect of NS1 immunity. ► Reduced interference if vector is re-used.
