Mumps vaccine effectiveness in primary schools and households, the Netherlands, 2008

► We studied mumps vaccine effectiveness (VE) during a mumps outbreak. ► The VE in schoolchildren was high for two doses of the mumps vaccine. ► Among household contacts of confirmed mumps cases, the VE was much lower. ► Mumps vaccination is highly effective in schoolchildren in the Netherlands. ► However, the low mumps VE in high exposure settings (households) is of concern.
