Effect of vaccination with an inactivated vaccine on transplacental transmission of BTV-8 in mid term pregnant ewes and heifers

► The effect of vaccination on transplacental transmission of BTV-8 was tested. ► Vaccination reduced BTV-8 viraemia and transmission to the foetus in ewes. ► Foetuses of vaccinated ewes had significantly less lesions. ► In heifers, transmission to the foetus was less frequent compared to ewes. ► In vaccinated heifers, no viraemia and no transmission to the foetus was found.
