Biomarkers, aromatic hydrocarbons and polar compounds in the Neogene lignites and gangue sediments of the Konin and Turoszów Brown Coal Basins (Poland)

► Miocene lignite and gangue sediments organic matter were investigated. ► Biomarker ratios, huminite reflectance, Rock-Eval Analysis indicate om immaturity. ► Significant influence of a lignite lithotype on geochemical features was found. ► Biological origin of om was assessed using combination of GC-MS and PY-GC/MS.
