Geochemistry of carbon nanotube assemblages in coal fire soot, Ruth Mullins fire, Perry County, Kentucky

► Sooty carbon deposits at an eastern Kentucky coal fire were investigated. ► The carbons consist of C nanotubes enclosing Hg and other nano-scale structures. ► Unlike soot from utility-scale coal combustion, fullerenes were not detected. ► Minerals include salammoniac, jarosite, and pickeringite.
