Crater wall outcrop analysis for targeting subsurface sampling on Mars

► Remote and in-situ images were compared to identify outcrops in craters at Meridiani Planum. ► Using outcrop indicators and ground truth by Opportunity rover several outcrops were found. ► Differently sized craters show characteristic subsurface bedrock outcrops sizes and types. ► At the example terrain craters above 50-80 m diameter exhume depth could be reached by ExoMars rover.
