TIS21/BTG2/PC3 accelerates the repair of DNA double strand breaks by enhancing Mre11 methylation and blocking damage signal transfer to the Chk2T68-p53S20 pathway

► DNA double strand breaks (DSBs) more frequently observed in the TIS21−/− mouse embryo fibroblast. ► TIS21 accelerated the repair of DSBs induced by etoposide treatment. ► TIS21 strongly inhibited phosphorylations of Chk2T68 and p53S20. ► TIS21 bound with PRMT1 and Mre11. ► TIS21 accelerated repair of DSBs via increasing Mre11 methylation by enhancing PRMT1 activity.
