Krankmachende Geisterwesen - Aspekte der Dämonenmedizin in China

The present article sheds a light on the development and relevance of demonological medical concepts in the history of medicine in China, up to the point where they got lost due to the formation of a new „Traditional” Chinese Medicine. Demon medicine in its developmental stages is understood as a model of explaining mental diseases on a psychodynamic background. In turning away from these concepts, Traditional Chinese Medicine created a gap that has not been sufficiently filled by approaches from the medical system of correspondence alone. Rather, these older explanatory models anticipated the integration of modern psychosomatic concepts which will be discussed in a forthcoming article.
