Monitorage de la PCO2Â transcutanée en médecine du sommeil

Monitoring the partial pressure of carbone dioxide is the best means of assessing alveolar ventilation. Recent development in transcutaneous technology has been the introduction of electrodes combining the monitoring of the hemoglobin O2 saturation (SpO2) and of the transcutaneous PCO2 (PtCO2). Response time with currents systems is fast and reliable with recent improvements in PtCO2 drift during prolonged monitoring. Overnight monitoring of PCO2 has become a reliable tool for assessing diagnosis and treatment of alveolar hypoventilation during sleep in patients receiving non-invasive ventilation. Nowadays, the use of this tool is recommended in the recent guidelines of the HAS (Haute Autorité de Santé).
