Although current French legislation states that night work should remain exceptional, shift work is more and more common, despite the fact that irregular work schedules have significant repercussions on the organism. Indeed, dysregulation of biological rhythms associated with shift work may lead to sleep problems, disturb the cardiovascular and gastro-intestinal system and cause immune dysfunction. After a brief recall of current French legislation, the interrelationship between night-shift work and breast cancer will be discussed.
