La prise de décision médicale en gériatrie

Starting from a qualitative research of French geriatricians' decision-making processes, this report analyzes the pitfalls in decision-making. The knowledge of processes used in complex decisions may help to prevent common mistakes. French geriatricians who participate in this research practice evidence-based medicine. The experience of each practitioner motivates them to favor a particular outcome. Use of computers enhances usage of evidence-based medicine but at the same time avoids a global vision of the problem. Knowledge of decision-making process methods is very poor. A disciplined approach to decision making can help reveal most of the frequently hidden traps.
