In addition to its central role in the maintenance of bone homeostasis, there has been particular interest in these last years Vitamin D's capacity to regulate other facets of human health and immunity in particular. The objective of this article is to present the different pathways by which Vitamin D and its metabolites may interact and regulate the immune system and its cellular components. The mechanism by which this “hormone” contributes in strengthening our anti-infection defenses will also be detailed.
