Chirurgie digestive minimale invasive chez la personne âgée : revue de la littérature

The French population is aging and therefore making digestive surgery in the elderly a common place. The emergence of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) led to a revolution in the general population before demonstrating benefits among older patients. Reducing surgical trauma and postoperative morbidity, MIS falls within a less aggressive management of the elderly. Age should not only be considered as a contraindication for MIS, and it is likely that older patients will benefit most from a minimally-invasive approach. The present review aims at presenting benefits and limitations of minimally invasive digestive surgery in elderly patients, so as to choose the appropriate procedure for each situation and understand the role of MIS in an optimal treatment strategy.
