Cybersexe et addiction : quelle thérapie ?

RésuméLorsque nous avons démarré cette enquête fin 2004, il n'existait pas de travaux français sur l'addiction sexuelle à Internet, et il était essentiel de faire un état des lieux de cette nouvelle forme de dépendance pour proposer un premier bilan aux sexologues. Comment définir la cybersexedépendance ? Est-ce une nouvelle forme de pathologie ? Si oui, quels outils thérapeutiques ? Faut-il envisager, et quel peut être le profil du cybersexedépendant ? L'enquête a été mise en place sur un site Internet dédié, et en cinq semaines (mars 2005), 20 000 questionnaires ont été remplis par les utilisateurs. 7588 dossiers furent exploitables, avec une réponse complète à 74 items, et pour plus de 1100 d'entre eux, des commentaires spontanés ont été ajoutés par les sondés. Une analyse a pu être menée sur l'utilisation d'Internet et ses conséquences sur le comportement sexuel des utilisateurs. Presque 90 % des réponses exploitables concernent les hommes. Environ 10 % d'entre eux vont se révéler cybersexedépendants, et demandent clairement une prise en charge thérapeutique. Si Internet et l'addiction sexuelle étudiée ne développent pas véritablement une nouvelle « maladie », il est indispensable que les sexologues prennent en compte ce nouveau mode d'expression sexuel et toutes les transformations qu'il implique en termes de rituels.

At the time this survey started at the end of 2004, no research had been conducted in France into sexual addiction to the Internet, and it was crucial to investigate this new form of dependency in order to report back to sexologists. In addition, it was important to find a definition for “cybersex-addiction”, and decide whether it should be considered as pathology or not. If this were the case, what therapeutic tools were available to fight it, and what idea do we have of the cybersex-addict profile? The survey was set up on a dedicated website, and over a period of 5 weeks (March 2005), 20,000 questionnaires were submitted by users. Seven thousand five hundred and eighty-eight of them were usable, with a full response to the 74 items, and 1100 respondents also provided voluntary comments. They provided information on their use of the Internet and its consequences on their sexual behavior. Nearly 90% of the usable answers concerned male subjects. Approximately 10% of them admitted to being “cybersex-addicts”, and were clearly looking for some sort of therapy. Although the Internet and the form of sex addiction being studied cannot be considered as a new “disease”, it is essential that sexologists take this new form of sexual expression on board, and all the transformations it implies in terms of rituals.
