Du couple conjugal au couple parental

RésuméDevenir parent demande au couple conjugal un réaménagement plus ou moins profond de sa relation duelle. L'homme et la femme entrent dans la parentalité par des voies différentes : découverte comblante le plus souvent chez la femme, et frustrante chez l'homme, qui dans un premier temps doit soutenir la relation symbiotique mère–bébé, dont il peut se sentir exclu. Le souvenir plus ou moins conscient de sa propre enfance aide ou complique la mise en place de son identité de parent, ainsi que la façon dont le couple conjugal arrivera ou pas à un réaménagement harmonieux de sa relation affective et sexuelle. Cheminer l'un et l'autre vers une plus grande maturité passe par des moments de tension voire de crise structurés autour du jeu de la différence des sexes et du passé de chacun. La maturation de la relation conjugale et de la fonction parentale vont de pair, la différence des sexes et des générations en étant le levier.

The arrival of a child requires the couple to reshape their dual relationship to a greater or lesser extent. The way in which a man and a woman become parents is quite different: the woman usually feels fulfilled by the arrival of a child, whilst the man often feels frustrated as he initially has to support the symbiotic relationship between the mother and baby, from which he may feel excluded. His own childhood memories – both conscious and subconscious – will either assist, or further complicate the development of his identity as a parent, and whether the couple will be able to harmoniously reorganise its emotional and sexual relationship, or not. The road to greater maturity will necessarily take them through times of tension, or even crisis, structured around the interplay between gender differences and each person's past. Maturity in the marital relationship and parental roles go hand in hand, with differences according to gender and generation providing leverage.
