The application of ALFF to the idiopathic complex partial seizures epilepsy of teenagers

ObjectiveTo detect the resting state fMRI (rfMRI) change of the complex partial seizures (CPS) epilepsy patients by employing the amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (ALFF) techniques.Methods21 right-handed CPS patients were investigated, with age, gender and education background-matched healthy subjects in comparison. ALFF was processed using REST and SPM8 software to compare the resting state function in the whole brain between two groups.ResultsIn CPS patients, the regions showing increased ALFF were consistently distributed in the mesial temporal lobe, the parts of parietal lobe which composing a network proposed previously, while the regions showing decreased ALFF were located in the areas of so-called default mode network (DMN) and the bilateral cerebellar cortices.ConclusionsAt the resting state, there are important ALFF values to study epilepsy, and it may help us to localize the epileptic zones.
