Mood disorders in the general hospital setting

Mood disorder is common in the liaison psychiatry setting, affected by biological and psychosocial effects of medical illness and its treatment. Presentation with somatization and functional symptoms is common. Depression can adversely affect the outcome of medical illnesses, but effective treatment using the usual evidence-based treatments may reverse this.
